Section 8 Income Limit Calculator — Every U.S. County

This estimator shows which HUD income band a household falls into for any county in the United States, using the official FY2026 Section 8 Income Limits. Pick your county or enter a ZIP code, add your household size and gross annual income, and it will show your band and the full limit table for that county.

This is an estimate, not an eligibility determination. Only the housing authority that serves your address can determine eligibility. It considers deductions, assets, household composition, citizenship or eligible immigration status, screening criteria and local preferences, none of which this tool can see.

This is an estimate, not an official eligibility determination. It compares one number — the gross annual income you enter — against HUD’s published income limits. It is not an application, it does not reserve a place on any waiting list, and it cannot tell you whether a waiting list is open. Only the administering housing authority can determine eligibility.

Your administering housing authority: Berkeley Housing Authority · Carlsbad Housing & Homeless Services · CDC of National City · Central Oregon Regional Housing Authority · City of Alameda Housing Authority · All Nevada housing authorities

Nevada has three HUD-recorded housing authorities. The calculator names the one covering your county once you submit.

Public domain U.S. Government work. Figures are the official FY2026 Section 8 Income Limits. Eligibility is determined by the administering housing authority, not by this dataset.

Enter your details to see which HUD income band your household falls in for FY2026.

We use the ZIP only to work out the county.
Add together the gross income of everyone who will live in the home.

What the three bands mean

  • Extremely low income (30%) — most Housing Choice Voucher assistance is targeted here by law.
  • Very low income (50%) — the usual threshold for voucher eligibility.
  • Low income (80%) — used for many other affordable housing programs.

Important limits of this tool

Income limits are revised every year, and being inside a band does not mean assistance is available. Waiting lists are opened and closed by each housing authority, and no federal dataset publishes their status. Applying through a housing authority is always free; if any site asks you to pay to apply for Section 8, do not pay.
